Pool training at least twice a week and depth training once a week during summer (and more if you get a key to the lake storage container).  Occasional spearfishing / freediving trips.  great place to learn and push yourself in an environment with a focus on safety.  AIDA 2 star and 3 star courses are also offered from time to time.

  • Summary of club activity: Group to coordinate Freediving training targeted at Spearos and Freedivers and to pair people up who are are heading out into the deep blue. Over winter we run regular training on Tuesday at 7:15pm at AUT Millennium. Sessions are $20 for the first session which will includes theory, discussion and of course plenty of pool time doing freediving specifically targeted to Spearfishing activity.

We hold regular recreational dive and fishing trips with at least 3 planned trips per year and a good number of club days weather permitting.

South Island

  • Summary of club activity: Some hardcore spearos decided to form a club for the South Island and do regular freediving pool training, arrange spearo trips and also spearo competitions.  I know they train regularly in Christchurch and have also possibly been looking at other places like Nelson too.  They’ve got a good focus on both safety and spearing.

Upper Clutha Divers & Spearfishing

Facebook group (not currently a club), for people interested diving areas like Jackson Bay etc.

Spearfishing Southland

Facebook group based in Southland with a strong focus on Southland and Fiordland. They also organise an annual comp (damn the weather the last couple of years) with some changes coming to that for 2022 which will make it a bit bigger than previously run comps
